Phil Best
is a pianist living in Fulham, West London. He was a gifted musician as
a child, playing the piano and composing, appearing in concerts from an
early age. He trained with Denis Matthews and then Ryszard Bakst, at the
Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he appeared in numerous
public concerto and recital concerts. Winning the Elizabeth Hannah Lees
Scholarship and the Frederick Dawson Prize, Phil looked destined to follow
the typical career of a classical pianist. Instead,
Phil has been devoted to broadening his musical experience. He plays,
sings and writes music in many different genres; he produces and records
and is an innovative and dedicated teacher. He has worked to find a way
of playing the piano that is natural, powerful and accessible and ways
of training music that champion real fluency and empowerment. Music Without Walls is his brainchild. His aim is to bring the magic of live performance of solo and small ensemble music to a wide audience, embodying a whole new set of performance values. |
